Abby Cadabby and Elmo Birthday Cake

The mom wanted both Elmo and Abby on her daughter's cake - plus a way to show that she was turning 2.  So, I did Elmo and Abby out of fondant and edible marker using a paper template and did a version of the Sesame Street sign using the birthday girl's name and age.  The sides were done with candy buttons and I also wanted to make something that represented Abby - so I did butterflies and stars, like the one on her magic wand.  This cake was a joy to make - so cute and colorful.

Dove Promises Valentine's Cake

I got some of these Dove Promises in my Christmas stocking and absolutely loved the way they looked - that beautiful swirl.  I thought that they'd make a lovely cake decoration and so for Valentine's day, and because my husband loves chocolate, I made a six inch square chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream completely tiled with these Promises.  Overall - it took 60 chocolates to cover the cake! He loved it.

Mama and Baby Bird Baby Shower Cake

This cake was for my sister's welcome shower for her beautiful new baby girl who was born a few weeks early.  Her nursery them was all birds, so we carried it through to the baby shower.  I can't tell you how much I love these colors together.  Made the birds and nest a few days before the shower.  Cakes were pink inside.  All deco is fondant and edible pearls.

Purple and Grey Leopard Print Shoe Cake

This one turned out really nicely.  The client showed me a photo and we took it from there.  Never realized how lovely these colors look together.

Used the My Cake School (www.mycakeschool.com) tutorial to do the leopard spots with frosting on the cake.  The shoe was made from fondant and I hand-painted the spots on.  Name plate was also hand-painted. Top tier is covered in grey pearls. Overall, a super fun cake to make!

Because I usually have more batter than I need, I make a few cupcakes to have at home.  Also did a leopard print on these. Super cute!

3D Fish cake

After seeing a tutorial online of this cake, I decided to do my own version.  Kudos to the lady who so freely gave the tutorial.  She made it look much easier than it is.  It took me longer than I thought to sculpt the bass out of rice cereal treats. And covering him in fondant was a long mystery.  Took me some time to figure it out. But - the finished work is lovely, I think.  Love the way the water looks.  The clients were super pleased and said it tasted and looked amazing.

Inside was a coconut cake with coconut filling.  Outside was my standard buttercream.

Pink and Black Zebra Surprise Cake

Another very fun cake to make!  Loved doing this and the birthday girl was thrilled.

Especially when we cut the cake to reveal - zebra stripes!!!

Filling was Bavarian. All deco was fondant except for the pink buttercream frosting. And the feathers, of course - were feathers. :)

Logo surprise cake

Did this simple square cake for my husband's company party.  Did the company logo on top in blue fondant.  The surprise of course was the blue velvet cake inside.  All were delighted.

Guitar Cake

This is my first guitar cake.  I think I would do a few things differently next time, but everyone loved the cake and didn't notice the mistakes.

I used the Wilton guitar pan, but since I love working with fondant, I decided to use all fondant on the top portion of the cake.  I hand painted the wood grain, and added other embellishments to the top in fondant.  If I would have had more time, I might have added a pick guard. My biggest error was not decorating the fret board!  Can't believe I forgot that.  And I wish I would have also piped the birthday message in another color, but that brown icing so enraging.  I used almost an entire container of gel color and it was still a peanut butter color.  :(

The strings are white floral wire.  I attempted to pipe them over and over again, but it was a mess each time.  Thank God I was piping on fondant - always a "pipe and wipe" situation if you mess up.

Everyone loved it.

Wedding test cake

This one was a lot of fun to do.  Pulled together a little test cake for my bride in April.  Wanted to show her my fondant rose skills and other piping techniques (which I'm not too crazy about but I'm getting there.) Filled with bavarian and frosted with buttercream.  Cake is white almond sour cream.  She loved it.

Painted Pottery Cake

I've been brainstorming over this cake for many months.  It was for my husband's aunt, who has a deep love for Alcobaca pottery from Portugal.  I debated on covering the entire cake with fondant, and painting it, but in the end, decided that doing fondant discs would be the smartest way to go about it.  The yellow background worked really well.

Cake was white almond sour cream with buttercream frosting and bavarian filling.  All fondant discs were hand painted.
