3D Fish cake

After seeing a tutorial online of this cake, I decided to do my own version.  Kudos to the lady who so freely gave the tutorial.  She made it look much easier than it is.  It took me longer than I thought to sculpt the bass out of rice cereal treats. And covering him in fondant was a long mystery.  Took me some time to figure it out. But - the finished work is lovely, I think.  Love the way the water looks.  The clients were super pleased and said it tasted and looked amazing.

Inside was a coconut cake with coconut filling.  Outside was my standard buttercream.

Pink and Black Zebra Surprise Cake

Another very fun cake to make!  Loved doing this and the birthday girl was thrilled.

Especially when we cut the cake to reveal - zebra stripes!!!

Filling was Bavarian. All deco was fondant except for the pink buttercream frosting. And the feathers, of course - were feathers. :)

Logo surprise cake

Did this simple square cake for my husband's company party.  Did the company logo on top in blue fondant.  The surprise of course was the blue velvet cake inside.  All were delighted.

Guitar Cake

This is my first guitar cake.  I think I would do a few things differently next time, but everyone loved the cake and didn't notice the mistakes.

I used the Wilton guitar pan, but since I love working with fondant, I decided to use all fondant on the top portion of the cake.  I hand painted the wood grain, and added other embellishments to the top in fondant.  If I would have had more time, I might have added a pick guard. My biggest error was not decorating the fret board!  Can't believe I forgot that.  And I wish I would have also piped the birthday message in another color, but that brown icing so enraging.  I used almost an entire container of gel color and it was still a peanut butter color.  :(

The strings are white floral wire.  I attempted to pipe them over and over again, but it was a mess each time.  Thank God I was piping on fondant - always a "pipe and wipe" situation if you mess up.

Everyone loved it.

Wedding test cake

This one was a lot of fun to do.  Pulled together a little test cake for my bride in April.  Wanted to show her my fondant rose skills and other piping techniques (which I'm not too crazy about but I'm getting there.) Filled with bavarian and frosted with buttercream.  Cake is white almond sour cream.  She loved it.

Painted Pottery Cake

I've been brainstorming over this cake for many months.  It was for my husband's aunt, who has a deep love for Alcobaca pottery from Portugal.  I debated on covering the entire cake with fondant, and painting it, but in the end, decided that doing fondant discs would be the smartest way to go about it.  The yellow background worked really well.

Cake was white almond sour cream with buttercream frosting and bavarian filling.  All fondant discs were hand painted.

Fish Cake

Was commissioned to do this lovely creature for the birthday of a man who loves to fish.  Surprisingly easy and a lot of fun. I think he was a bit too "green around the gills" but everyone thought he looked incredible.  So glad I decided to use a real cutting board for my cake platter.

Cake was chocolate lightly frosted in buttercream and covered in fondant. Fondant and fins were all hand sculpted and painted.

Jiu Jitsu/Kickboxer Cake

This cake was for a boy turning 9.  He's very into jiu jitsu and kickboxing, so his mom asked me to do the logo of his dojo as well as some other deco.  Cake was basic yellow with buttercream.  All decoration in fondant.  They were thrilled!

Funny story about the last picture - I had a star for each year he was born, but though he was turning 8.  When she told me it was nine, I added that last star on top. :)

Penguin Winter Wonderland Cake

This cake was SO much fun to make.  I can't even tell you how much I loved doing this.  It was a joy to put together.  I sculpted each penguin to represent a grandchild that would be at our Christmas gathering (the Christmas Day gathering).  The igloo is made from the ball pan.  Bottom layer is just a single 9 inch round.  All in buttercream.

Igloo is covered in fondant.  I used gumpaste tools to make it look bricked.

Happy Birthday Jesus Cake

Each year, my son and I have a tradition of making a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas Eve.  I knew I'd have to step it up this year since I've gotten into baking and decorating.  This was my creation.

Cake was white almond sour cream with buttercream filling.  Frosted in buttercream with fondant sculpture deco.  Manger (or is it creche?) was made of rice cereal treats.  My cousin said this was in her "top five of best frostings she's ever tasted." I was impressed, considering she's been all over the world. :)
